Mission Impossible?!?!?

Sungha Jung - Check out this YouTube video of this boy wonder and remember his name! Awesome!

------------------------------------------

Mr.Keropok's Thoughts:

Gosh! This boy is amazing! I was totally dumbfounded when I saw this video. I play the guitar too, but am no where even 5% of his skills!

*Salute* This young chap here is really an inspirational hero!

Kids of his age in Singapore are probably establishing themselves in Maplestory and busy hacking at snails and mushrooms. But this boy here is making history in the real world man!

Kudos to Sungha Jung!! =D

Mr.Keropok conquers Mt. Kinabalu!!

18th June 2009, 7:30am.

Time stood still as this was the historic moment for Mr.Keropok and his 3 buddies has braved rain, gusty cold winds, fatigue and covered almost 8.5km of forest trails and rock scaling before reaching the summit of Mount Kinabalu @ 4,095 metres - the tallest mountain in South East Asia.

WE DID IT!!!

Here are some photos of the Mt Kinabalu expedition & our R&R @ Sutera Harbour.

Timpohon Gate - The start point of our Mt Kinabalu expedition trail

We climed up and down almost 1,000 of such stony steps through the journey.

A view enroute to the summit - An appetizer of what is to come.

In the foreground, our lifesaver in this trip - Water.

A view of the mountain ridges just before scaling to the peak of Mt Kinabalu.

A breath-taking shot from Mt Kinabalu summit - We were above the clouds!

A short tour around beautiful Sutera Harbour Resort's yatch docking station.

Beautiful sunset @ Sutera Harbour Resort.

A beautiful sunset makes a beautiful ending to a beautiful trip!

Mr.Keropok's Thoughts:

I am thankful for the buddies (JarJar, Yang & Ah-Cong) on this trip. Honestly, there came a point in the expedition where I wanted to give up and not scale the summit. My body has reached the fatigue limit and I was prepare to not climb the final 200 metres segment to reach the summit. But thankfully none of them wanted to give up and persisted on. that really spurred and inspired me to keep going!

I thought I understood the theory, but now I see it in working out in reality.

When a team works together, together they are able to achieve so much greater than what one person can reach.

'Pregnant Man' Gives Birth To Another Baby

Source: Photo and article from Sky News 2009

A controversial transgender man has given birth to his second child, a year after his daughter was born.

Thomas Beatie delivered a healthy baby boy early on Tuesday morning, according to ABC News.

His wife Nancy will breast-feed their son, as she did with their daughter Susan Juliette, who was born in Oregon in June last year.

During his first pregnancy, Mr Beatie released a photograph of himself showing his pregnant belly and bearded face.

He became known around the world as the "pregnant man" and was sent death threats and hate messages by people who disagreed with what he was doing.

The 35-year-old said at the time: "I think that people will be shocked because no-one's ever heard of a man giving birth before.

"I guess it's a shocking concept, but in this day and age that's possible. And it's happening now."

Mr Beatie, who was born as Tracy Lagondino, underwent gender reassignment surgery and hormone treatment to become a man.

He chose to keep his female reproductive organs but is legally recognised as a male.

The couple decided he would bear their children because Mrs Beatie, 46, had already had a hysterectomy and was unable to conceive.

After stopping his male hormone treatment, he became pregnant with donor sperm bought on the internet.

-------------------------------------------------

Mr.Keropok's Thoughts:

How in the world does the legal system acknowledges whether a person is being recognised as a male or female?

Is it all just about which reproductive organ a person has "at that particular time"? Or should it be in accordance with when one is formed in the mother's womb?

It's truly a crazy world out there... Man want to be woman, woman wanting to be man. When can we start behaving and living out how we were created as?!?

*Mr.Keropok feels disturbed hearing all these crazy news happening around.. Sigh...*

'I'm gay' says 'Idol' runner-up Lambert

Source: News article from Agence France Presse, 10th June 2009

Make-up wearing "American Idol" star Adam Lambert has ended the guessing game over his sexual orientation by confirming he is gay in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine.

Glam-rocker Lambert, 27, who finished runner-up to clean-cut Kris Allen in the television singing contest last month, told Rolling Stone he had been living openly as a gay man for several years.

"I don't think it should be a surprise for anyone to hear I'm gay," Lambert told Rolling Stone in its latest issue due on newstands Friday.

"I've been living in Los Angeles for eight years as a gay man. I've been at clubs drunk making out with somebody in the corner."
(Read more about this story here >> )

------------------------------------------

Mr.Keropok's Thoughts:

Pardon me for being "old-fashion" or "Sua Ku" (Mountain Tortoise), but I am totally shocked with this news!

I am no American Idol follower, but I do know that people like Adam Lambert and Kris Allen (the winner of American Idol this season) are of celebrity status having being seen on LIVE TV weeks after weeks leading to the finals!

And now with this breaking news, what kind of message is he sending to those around the world who looks up to him as a role model?

I respect Lambert as a person and for the success he has achieved - definitely he has put alot of hard work in. But I do disagree with his lifestyle of living and most definitely how he chooses to share about it so openly, especially now that he is a well known public figure with substantial influence.

"Through the Rain, A Silver Lining"

Pick Yourself Up, Dust Yourself Off
Source: Article and photo from TODAY (5th June 2009)
As Mdm Rahmah Anes battled breast cancer, her husband left her for another woman. Left with mounting medical bills, no income and three school-going children, she felt as though her “world was crumbling down”.

“At first, I felt very down and couldn’t stop crying after I was diagnosed with breast cancer. But I knew I had to live on for my children,” said Mdm Rahmah, who underwent a mastectomy in 2005 to remove her right breast.

As a result of the family upheavals, her youngest daughter, who was in Primary School, became severely depressed. Shuffling to and from her cancer treatment and her daughter’s psychiatric appointments, there wasn’t much time left for self-pity.

During those difficult moments, encouragement from one of the nurses at the Singapore
General Hospital gave her great comfort while she was undergoing treatment there. Sister Nagalingam Saraswathi — whom Mdm Rahmah affectionately calls Sister Sara — offered her the soothing encouragement that her absent husband was unable to give her.

“I concentrated on my treatment, and became a fighter for my kids,” she said. And that she did, fighting hard to put her life back on track. Shortly after, she joined a breast cancer support group and took up foot reflexology and massage courses so that she could find a job. In spite of her stoic outlook, life wasn’t smooth sailing. In 2006 and 2007, Mdm Rahmah developed a blood clot in her throat and cervical fibroids respectively. Both conditions required surgery.

But her poor health did not stop her from counselling and helping other cancer patients. Occasionally, she would accompany the patients she counselled to their chemotherapy sessions. “I didn’t want them to suffer the type of loneliness I had gone through,” she said.

Mdm Rahmah’s infectious optimism and lust for life made her the perfect candidate for
the SGH Inspirational Patient Award. Launched by the hospital last year, the award recognises patients who display a positive attitude towards their illness and recovery, and are a source of inspiration to fellow patients and healthcare professionals. Ten patients were presented with the award. Three of them were Oustanding Award winners and Mdm Rahmah was one of them.

Today, things have begun to look up for Mdm Rahmah, who now works as a part-time
massage therapist. Her husband, who works as a cleaner, has returned and their relationship is “back to normal for the sake of the children”.

“I’m happy that everything seems to be better. I just take one day a step at a time,” she said. “Whatever will be, will be.”

-------------------------------------------

Mr.Keropok's Thoughts:

Indeed life is full of trouble and they often comes in all forms and definitely when we least expect it. And bad things can even befall on good people!

But some things that we can take heart and be inspired from this testimony of how adversities in life brought forth true grits.

1. Resilience in character is often developed, sparked forth and is contagious where there is strong support and encouragement from friends and loved ones around.

Practical application: In the fortunate state of life we are in, how then can we be a blessing and encouragement to those who are less fortunate or people whom are going through trials and challenges?

2. The way to moving on in life despite setbacks and adversities is really to give and not hold back. Just like Mdm Rahman, she gave back through helping out with other cancer patients. Other than being an encouragement to others, am certain this also helped her to move on with purpose - knowing that despite sickness, she may be down but not out.

Practical application: In whatever challenges and crisis that we face in life, we should all learn to take a step back and take bigger picture outlook. Instead of starring in defeat and feel wormy at our problems, why not see what we can learn from it? Or even give and help those around who are going through similar predicaments?

Let me end of by quoting to all what one of the youths that I mentor SMSed me one day during his BMT training...

"I may be PES C physically, but I will not be PES C in my mind!"

The Cause of Traffic Jams (mostly)

I was caught in a traffic jam this morning in ECP. What frustrates me was not the traffic jam itself, but the reason why the traffic jam was so bad!

1. ERP - Seems like every driver has this habit of intentionally slowing down within 50 metres of approaching the ERP gantry! I suspect it has got to do with all the last minute "gun cheong spider" checks on the cashcards values, or worse still - trying to buy those few minutes so that the ERP charges are cheaper after a particular time!

2. Vehicle accidents - Nothing judgemental against the accident itself. My sympathy goes out to the drivers involved. However, what's disturbing are the rest of the other "kay poh" drivers who intentionally slow down to catch a look at what happened! And I even noticed a couple of times where some vehicles passing by were really slow moving because the passengers inside were trying to copy down the accident vehicle numbers!! Goodness!

-------------------------------------------

Mr.Keropok's Thoughts

My plead to all drivers:

1. Be considerate and drive carefully so that there will be lesser accidents on the roads. Spare a thought if not for yourself, but also for those in your vehicles.

2. Be mindful and check the value in your cashcard before driving off your parking lot. Don't wait until the last minute when you are nearing the ERP gantry. Sometimes those sudden slowing down or stoppages may cause accidents too! For goodness sake, don't be so stingy in driving slowly so as to try to save on the 50 cents difference!

3. And for more goodness sake, don't be so "kay poh" or superstitious! Either you really stop by and offer some practical help or else continue driving on!

PS: mr.keropok is not a driver himself and whatever that is being written here purely is an expression of his own views.

Fear Factor - Flying Cockroach!!

COCKROACH - I am not afraid. But I'm also not so gungho as to go around whacking them with a newspaper roll. I will gladly step out of their way as they wriggle off into the dark corners.

FLYING COCKROACH!!! - And YES! Those are the ones that I'm really fearful of. Terrified. Traumatised. Freaked out. These are just some understatements which describes me when I see such aliens nearby - worse still, if they are in my house!

And guess what? Last night I encounter a big fat flying cockroach in my bedroom! I was happily lying on my bed reading when I heard a fluttering sound. I turned around and to my horror, I saw my nemesis creeping on top of my window curtains. From my observation, it measured about 5cm in length and 2cm in width! Before I knew it, the dreaded thing happened - It took off and starting flying around my room and decided to park itself behind my room door. (Phew! Thank goodness it didn't land on my bed! Else I would have slept in the living room!)

Back to my cockroach adventure.. Within a split second, I sprinted out my bedroom faster than Usain Bolt and looked for the infamous "Cockroach Killer" - My Mum.

"Aiyo.. Big man like you, so afraid of cockroach? Let me handle this."

Armed with a rolled newspaper in hand, she went into my bedroom. "PIAK!" One shot one kill and that ended my misery for the night. (That's my cool Mum)

I decided this morning to do some research on flying cockroaches and let me share with you one interesting post I found:
Quoted from Katherine's blog:

"Cockroach that can fly are actually pregnant. According to the a
documentary film, their ability to fly stem from a survival instincts to
protect their eggs while incubating. So its a natural progression of their
ability when a female cockroach gets pregnant.

So when you do see a flying cockroach, be sure to send it flying to heaven
before it spills its evil spawns out!!!

To totally eliminate their race, after killing the pregnant cockroach, use alcohol to burn it, so as to totally wipe out the eggs (remember the movie Aliens, where Sigourney Weaver burns the eggs??) thats the only way to
totally kill out these roaches

Do not, I repeat, do not attempt to flush the dead cockroach down the
toilet without burning it or totally squashing it! The eggs will still
hatch and climb out to spread their evil around and you'll have more to deal with in time.

Also, do not use insecticide on the pregnant cockroach cos it will only
help the eggs to develop resistance against the insecticide in future
."
My Goodness!!! It would really freak me out big time if a flying cockroach lands on my head next time! Argh!!!
