The Cause of Traffic Jams (mostly)

I was caught in a traffic jam this morning in ECP. What frustrates me was not the traffic jam itself, but the reason why the traffic jam was so bad!

1. ERP - Seems like every driver has this habit of intentionally slowing down within 50 metres of approaching the ERP gantry! I suspect it has got to do with all the last minute "gun cheong spider" checks on the cashcards values, or worse still - trying to buy those few minutes so that the ERP charges are cheaper after a particular time!

2. Vehicle accidents - Nothing judgemental against the accident itself. My sympathy goes out to the drivers involved. However, what's disturbing are the rest of the other "kay poh" drivers who intentionally slow down to catch a look at what happened! And I even noticed a couple of times where some vehicles passing by were really slow moving because the passengers inside were trying to copy down the accident vehicle numbers!! Goodness!

Mr.Keropok's Thoughts

My plead to all drivers:

1. Be considerate and drive carefully so that there will be lesser accidents on the roads. Spare a thought if not for yourself, but also for those in your vehicles.

2. Be mindful and check the value in your cashcard before driving off your parking lot. Don't wait until the last minute when you are nearing the ERP gantry. Sometimes those sudden slowing down or stoppages may cause accidents too! For goodness sake, don't be so stingy in driving slowly so as to try to save on the 50 cents difference!

3. And for more goodness sake, don't be so "kay poh" or superstitious! Either you really stop by and offer some practical help or else continue driving on!

PS: mr.keropok is not a driver himself and whatever that is being written here purely is an expression of his own views.
